Customers

The customers entity contains all individual and business customer records for your institution.

Overview

Customers are the foundation of BSA/AML monitoring. This entity includes:

  • Personal identification (name, DOB, TIN)
  • Contact information (address, phone, email)
  • Identification documents (driver's license, passport)
  • Employment and business information
  • Relationship dates

Entity Relationships

Customers connect to accounts through the Customer Relationships entity. A customer may have multiple account relationships (owner, signer, beneficiary, etc.).

Individual vs. Business Customers

Individuals

For individual customers, populate:

  • first_name, last_name, middle_name
  • date_of_birth
  • gender
  • occupation_title, employer_name
  • ID document fields (id_type, id_number, etc.)

Business Entities

For business customers, populate:

  • legal_name or corporate_name
  • industry_code, industry_description
  • Formation type via rs_formation_type (if available)

Required Fields

At minimum, include:

  • customer_number - Your primary customer identifier
  • tin or id_number - At least one identifier

Recommended for individuals:

  • first_name, last_name
  • date_of_birth
  • rs_tin_type

Recommended for businesses:

  • legal_name
  • tin with rs_tin_type = EIN

Best Practices

  1. Consistent customer numbers - Use the same identifier across all data files
  2. Complete addresses - Full address enables geographic analysis
  3. ID documentation - Include expiry dates for identification documents
  4. Alias handling - Use the alias flag for known-as names
  5. Deceased flag - Mark deceased customers with deceased = true
